Time passes very quickly in the HSC. One day you’re back into term 2, and the next day Term 2 is now soon over…which means trials are quickly approaching! How does one prepare for their trials with all of this time? 

Besides the huge ethical violation that is generating an essay to submit using AI technology, is there any truth to this claim?

Ah yes. The dreaded feeling of not finishing that English assignment early, or sleeping knowing you did not give an assignment your best is only too well known amongst us. So, how can you create a schedule that not only works but works best for you?

We’ve all been there. Looking at the piece of paper in front of us with a mark that didn’t meet our expectations as panic seeps into us. Amidst the discordant chatter of how well everyone else besides you did, that horrible feeling haunts you all the way home. This was a feeling I only knew so well during my preliminary years of HSC. So, how does one recover from a disappointing mark?

Discursive writing is possibly the most illusive part of the HSC, with few hard and fast rules, discursive writing is mostly up to the author.

Can you picture it? Long rows of individual desks stretched out across your school gym, papers lying face down, exam invigilators watching as people file in.

So the HSC exams are slowly but surely approaching. Actually, no. They are fast approaching.

With the upcoming trial exams for English Advanced looming before us, it's time to refine and improve our essays to make sure we have the very best analysis of our texts.

English Extension 1 gets students to study texts which are undeniably more challenging than those in English Advanced. As such, many run into difficulty when synthesising their understanding of the prescribed text, how it fits into their prescribed elective and how to adapt their appreciation of the work to different questions that might be hauled at them during the exam.

We search and search for a guide that tells us everything we need to know about essay writing but even hours of scavenging the internet can sometimes lead to a dead-end, with most websites either giving us a rather basic overview of what is needed, or simply not detailing the exact criteria that needs to be fulfilled in a full scoring extended response.

As the most popular text studied in Module B (Critical Study of Literature), it’s no easy task to separate one’s analytical essay on Eliot from the thousands of others students also writing about his poetry.

It is not uncommon for students to choose the HSC English Advanced course without knowing in great depth and breadth, the demands, expectations and general layout of the course.
